EDITOR’S NOTE: We are happy to give a shout out to our RFID customer Cedar Fair for their support of the organization “Autism Speaks.” Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom are hosting the organization’s annual fundraiser in Lehigh Valley on April 18, to help raise awareness of the nation’s fastest-growing serious developmental disability. We’re proud to partner with companies like Cedar Fair who truly care about making a difference in there community.
Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom is hosting the 10th annual Lehigh Valley Walk Now for Autism Speaks.
All proceeds from the event, scheduled April 18, at the South Whitehall Township amusement park, will benefit Autism Speaks’ local and national work, organizers said. The nonprofit organization works to raise awareness about autism, funds autism research and provides services for families affected by autism.
One in every 68 children is diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, making it the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the nation. Among boys the rate of diagnosis is higher at 1 in 42.
“We are helping to advance science and awareness nationally, while also supporting the important work of service providers, researchers and clinicians in our community and communities across America,” Autism Speaks Director of Field Development Melissa Zavorski said.
“Once again, we are coming together to celebrate the joy our loved ones with autism bring to our lives, and to advance the effort to make life better for them and their families,” she continued.
The walk is one of at least two South Whitehall events slated to benefit Autism Speaks. Cupcakes for a Cause at The Shops at 3900 Hamilton is scheduled April 16.
In addition to a 2- to 3-mile walk, the April 18 event will feature a community resource fair with information about therapists, schools recreational organizations and more for families affected by autism, organizers said. There also will be child-friendly activities, music and food during the walk.
Walk Now for Autism Speaks events are held in more than 100 cities nationwide every year, drawing hundreds of thousands of people. The Lehigh Valley walk is sponsored by Dorney Park, B104, Air Products, Vinart and a class=”body2″ host of other local businesses.
